Cameron Park is one of the most talked about, and written about, communities in California. The focus of much of this attention has been upon the Cameron Park Airport and its unique housing arrangement. Here the homes come with both garages for cars and hangers for aircraft.

Designed with taxiways linking the homes to the runway, the Cameron Park development initially attracted national and international media attention. The airport offered pilots direct access to home and hearth.

The resident/pilot could land, taxi to the hanger, park the aircraft, greet family, pet the dog and relax. For some Cameron Park residents, it is an easy way to beat the freeway commute. For the Bay area business commuter, it's the only way to go.

The airport had an added benefit, bringing a range of industrial businesses to its environs. Cameron Park, like its neighbor to the west, El Dorado Hills, has experienced considerable growth during the past two decades. Today, the community offers every conceivable housing choice, from homes and condos beside Cameron Park Lake, from apartments to hillside view homes, and from new home tracts to five and 10-acre estates.

During the gold rush, Cameron Park was crisscrossed by ditches conveying water to mines, farms and ranches. The Skinner and Bennet wineries flourished in the 1860s. One of the winery sites, at Green Valley Road and Cameron Park Drive, now is a nursery.

The Cameron Park Country Club provides a first-class golf experience and a backdrop to some of the area's nicest homes. Cameron Park is about 32 miles from downtown Sacramento, 70 miles from South Lake Tahoe, and less than 14 miles from Highway 49 in Placerville.
